FOREX OVERVIEW

The Forex market is a non-stop cash market where currencies of nations are traded, typically via brokers. Foreign currencies are constantly and simultaneously bought and sold across local and global markets and traders' investments increase or decrease in value based upon currency movements. Foreign exchange market conditions can change at any time in response to real-time events.

The main enticements of currency dealing to private investors and attractions for short-term Forex trading are:

1. 24-hour trading, 5 days a week with non-stop access to global Forex dealers.
2. An enormous liquid market making it easy to trade most currencies.
3. Volatile markets offering profit opportunities.
4. Standard instruments for controlling risk exposure.
5. The ability to profit in rising or falling markets.
6. Leveraged trading with low margin requirements.
7. Many options for zero commission trading.

Forex trading
The investor's goal in Forex trading is to profit from foreign currency movements. Forex trading or currency trading is always done in currency pairs. For example, the exchange rate of EUR/USD on Aug 26th, 2003 was 1.0857. This number is also referred to as a "Forex rate" or just "rate" for short. If the investor had bought 1000 euros on that date, he would have paid 1085.70 U.S. dollars. One year later, the Forex rate was 1.2083, which means that the value of the euro (the numerator of the EUR/USD ratio) increased in relation to the U.S. dollar. The investor could now sell the 1000 euros in order to receive 1208.30 dollars. Therefore, the investor would have USD 122.60 more than what he had started one year earlier. However, to know if the investor made a good investment, one needs to compare this investment option to alternative investments. At the very minimum, the return on investment (ROI) should be compared to the return on a "risk-free" investment. One example of a risk-free investment is long-term U.S. government bonds since there is practically no chance for a default, i.e. the U.S. government going bankrupt or being unable or unwilling to pay its debt obligation.

When trading currencies, trade only when you expect the currency you are buying to increase in value relative to the currency you are selling. If the currency you are buying does increase in value, you must sell back the other currency in order to lock in a profit. An open trade (also called an open position) is a trade in which a trader has bought or sold a particular currency pair and has not yet sold or bought back the equivalent amount to close the position.

However, it is estimated that anywhere from 70%-90% of the FX market is speculative. In other words, the person or institution that bought or sold the currency has no plan to actually take delivery of the currency in the end; rather, they were solely speculating on the movement of that particular currency

global forex

Modern monetary systems are far superior to the barter system people used in the old days. Inefficiency and lengthy negotiation were the main reason the barter system became obsolete. Later, bronze, silver and gold came to be used as mediums of exchange in trade.

Globally, currency trading is a major business, and it is estimated that over US$2 trillion is traded everyday. The system of currency trading is also referred to as foreign exchange, Forex, or FX for short. The currencies traded have a relative value to other currencies. The trading uses the purchase and sale of large quantities of currency to leverage the shift in order to earn profit.

Fluctuation in the relative value of a currency is caused by two reasons. The first reason being the \"real\" market, i.e. in case a foreigner wants to buy a commodity, he is forced to convert his domestic currency into the currency of the visiting place, the currency also fluctuates as it leaves a state.

Speculation is another factor on which the currency fluctuates. The heavy buying and selling in the market can drastically impact the value of the currency. This speculation has been responsible for drastic consequences on the national currency, consequently hampering the growth of a country\'s economy.

Analysts also consider online currency trading a very \"fast market\" which is highly volatile. An individual has to take into account technical and fundamental data and make an informed decision based on his perception of forex futures trading market sentiments and market expectations to become a successful trader. One of the variables that is most important in currency trading is timing. The trader has to be aware of the happenings in the market, and also has to understand the nuances of the market to play safely.

Banking conglomerates and large multinationals were the movers and shakers in trading before small investors entered into the market and changed the face of the industry. Although professional help is usually needed before individuals or companies start currency tradingArticle Search, an individual with good understanding of business can also try his luck in the practice.

Forex Market Overview

The 2007 survey shows an unprecedented rise in activity in traditional foreign exchange markets compared to 2004. Average daily turnover rose to $3.2 trillion in April 2007, an increase of 71% at current exchange rates and 65% at constant exchange rates...Against the background of low levels of financial market volatility and risk aversion, market participants point to a significant expansion in the activity of investor groups including hedge funds, which was partly facilitated by substantial growth in the use of prime brokerage, and retail investors...A marked increase in the levels of technical trading – most notably algorithmic trading – is also likely to have boosted turnover in the spot market...Transactions between reporting dealers and non-reporting financial institutions, such as hedge funds, mutual funds, pension funds and insurance companies, more than doubled between April 2004 and April 2007 and contributed more than half of the increase in aggregate turnover." - BIS

How do I trade Forex?

You select the pair of currencies with which you wish to make a Forex deal. You determine the volume (the amount of the deal). You deposit the "margin" (collateral needed to facilitate the deal. Usually - only a very small portion of the whole deal, say: 1% or 1:100).

Before you finally activate the deal, you can still "freeze" it for a few seconds. That enables you to either change the terms, or accept it as is, or altogether regret the whole idea. The "freeze" feature is a unique service by Easy-Forex™.

When your Forex deal is running (you hold an "open position"), you can monitor its status and check scenarios online, whenever you wish. You may change some terms in the deal, or close it (and cash the profit, if any, or minimize the loss, if any). Moreover, Easy-Forex™ lets you determine a "take-profit" rate, with which the deal will close automatically for you, when and if such rate occurs in the market. Meaning: you do not have to stay near your computer when you hold open positions.

Forex? What is it, anyway?

Markets are places to trade goods. The same goes with FOREX. The Forex goods (or merchandise) are the currencies of various countries. You buy Euro, paying with US dollars, or you sell Japanese Yens for Canadian dollars. That's all.

How does one profit in Forex?

Very simple and obvious: buy cheap and sell for more! The profit is generated from the fluctuations (changes) in the currency exchange market.

The nice thing about the FOREX market, is that regular daily fluctuations, say - around 1%, are multiplied by 100! (in general, Easy-Forex™ offers trading ratios from 1:50 to 1:200). If, for example, the exchange rate of "your" pair of currencies increased by 0.6% in the last 4 hours, your profit will be 60% on your investment! Such can happen in one business day, or in a few hours, even minutes.

Moreover, you cannot lose more than your "margin"! You may profit unlimited amounts, but you never lose more than what you initially risked and invested.

You can implement your choice (the pair of currencies, the volume amount) under any direction to which the market is moving, and yet make profit. It does not matter whether the exchange rate is going up or down: you can always decide to buy Euro and sell dollar, or vice versa - buy dollar and sell Euro. You don't have to physically possess certain currencies in order to perform "buy" or "sell" with them.

Determining Forex Trading Strategy

Before we get into determining strategies for forex trading, let's make sure we understand the core of Forex Trading. The forex market is a dynamic market place where foreign currencies are traded actively. This is normally done using brokers as the via media. Huge amounts of money is made or lost through these forex trades.

The retails traders are often unprepared of the road that lies ahead of them in the forex market and this article will help you avert heavy losses that may have occurred by diving straight in the trading of forex helping you in saving your hard earned money and assisting you in becoming a money-making forex trader.

These trades are done by:

* Businesses because their dealings are global and involve trading in goods and services that need to be paid for, or for consideration received in foreign currency, and by
* Speculative traders who thrive in the glorious uncertainties of the forex market and operate with the sole objective of gaining from these forex trading activities

The strategy for trading would accordingly depend on whether you are a businessman or a speculator. It is necessary to have a strategy simply because not having one is a sure shot strategy for failure. And that is not something acceptable to either the business man or the Speculator - one does not want to lose money on the forex market and the other wants to make money on the forex market. Again, whatever may be the objective, one thing is for certain - only the well informed actor achieves his objective.

Corporate or a Business House

Business Houses are exposed to the risks of the forex market because of their exposure to foreign currency dealing arising out of the contracts executed. Normally these houses shy away from taking risks in the forex market, reason being forex trading is merely incidental to their core business and not their core business. They do not like forex market risks to affect their carefully planned strategies for success in their business.

In such cases forex strategies revolve around how to ensure that their businesses are protected from the adversities of the forex market. They tend to be risk-averse in the sense that they do want the forex market risks to add to their bucket of risks that are associated with their business. What then, determines forex market strategies for such business houses?

* They like to hedge their exposure to forex market risks: they would like to remove entirely (if possible) or at least significantly reduce their risks related to forex market exposure.
* Some business houses tend to protect themselves when a risk is foreseen and the more forward thinking ones tend to make it a way of life to manage exposure to risks. They make policies to prevent individuals from taking calls based on their assessments. They tend to continuously evaluate risks involved and hedge accordingly using tools offered in the forex market and make sure that their businesses are rendered sustainable.
* While entering into forward contracts would seem to be the favorite option for these business houses (with the objective of preventing losses to the business), some of them would prefer the currency options mode which also allows you to benefit from favorable market situations. The latter of course needs smart treasury managers who understand nuances of forex trades well and take the right steps at the right time to make money using the market situation.
* Business houses like to work on logical or rational decision making processes - the why determines what and how of the actions they take. They focus on their core business and only focus on forex trading to the limited objective of staving off risks to their core business.

Forex Trading Signal

Here we are going to look at a free Forex trading signal that makes big gains and has done for over 25 years and is used by some of the world's top traders in their Forex trading strategies. Let's take a look at it.

The signal doesn't even need trading software to generate it, you can actually do it in your head. The signal is credited to famous trader Richard Donchain who is considered the grandfather of modern trend following and he called it the four week Rule and this is the rule

1. When prices move to a new 4 month high buy a currency and hold it.

2. Wait for a new 4 week low to occur, liquidate the long and take a short position.

3. Always maintain a position long or short in the market and simply reverse on each new 4 week high or low.

The above rule could not be simpler but it works and if you test it, you will see how much money it makes and the reason it works is because it works on two pieces of logic which will never go out of date and there the following:

1. Markets trend up or down for sustained periods of time.

2. All major trends start and continue from major breakouts

This system over the long term, will catch a good chunk of profit from every major trend but despite the fact it works most traders won't use it for the following reasons:

1. They prefer the get rich quick route and buy a cheap automated software package with no independent verification of gains instead, the above Forex trading signal is proven and has a real track record over a quarter of a century.

2. It takes discipline to follow as its long term and traders have a problem with holding long term trends, they think trading frequently means more profits and its clear this is not true.

3. Most traders simply pass it buy because they think a signal so simple cant work but of course all the best systems are simple because they are so robust.

The 4 Week Rule, as stood the test of time and any trader can use it to seek Forex trading success. In the next article in this series we will look at how to add filters to the above trading signal to make it even more effective and also look at some of Richard Donchian's other Forex trading tools.

FOREX Trading without Indicators

When it comes to trading most professional traders will be trading with indicators, so when most people hear that someone is trading with out them there is an instant look of bewilderment. To them it sounds like driving in the dark with no lights. But in fact it is the opposite.

So to people that trade without indicators they have to same reaction to people that trade with 10 indicators on their charts in order to place a trade. They will view all of these indicators as causing a blind spot to what is actually going on in the market.

FOREX Traders have been trading without indicators for as longs as the market have been around. This is what is simply known as price action. This particular trader is looking at the chart, looking at the current prices movements, comparing it to past price action movements to predict future price movements. So in simple terms everything we need know is sitting there right before our eyes, without the block of needless indicators.

Here is an example, within the FOREX Market there are certain patters that will be repeated on a constant basis. They are predictive in nature, as opposed to indicators like and RSI or MACD which are always lagging. They are only telling us what has already happened. Anybody can be a millionaire if they only tell you what has happened already. The real skill is using past information to make an informed decision about what the future holds. Trading without indicators is as close as we'll ever get to being a FOREX Trading psychic.

trading currencies

There was a time when you say currency trading; the first thing that most people will think is that this is the domain of large financial institutions. That day is over; right now anyone with interest and with an access to the market through technologies like the internet can participate. Are you one of those who are interested to dip your fingers in the wild world of trading? If you are mesmerized by currency markets and want to copy the lifestyle of millionaires who profited from dealing these currencies, then let this little guide be of help.

In this form of trading, any place can be considered as your trading floor. There is no regulated exchange to speak of, as compared to the regulated exchange where futures and stock trading can happen. In currency trading, there is no identified central governing agency that can guarantee the trades and can act as the mediator once something wrong happens on the trades. What happens is that traders are left to fend for themselves and they will trade with each other based upon the credit requirements or the financial standing of other trader. As they say, the only thing that can seal the deal between two players in trade is the proverbial handshake.

At first glance, this informal set-up where the traders can leave other traders of other markets bewildered, confused and frustrated. They may even say that this informal set-up will lead to nothing and will lead to the eventual collapse of what we refer to as currency trading. But for years now, this so-called informal market is still there thus this says a lot about the informal set-up. This means that the informal set-up and self-regulation works.

A third player in the form of an agent or a broker is non-existent. This market is considered as the market for principal players only, with no room for brokers. Another interesting feature of this trading is that players actually sell and buy nothing. This is true because the market is speculative in nature, and trades are initiative and finished on computers. The market still exists in order to provide an avenue for large players like corporations in order for them to trade the currencies on a continuous basis. For example, some business organizations need to buy currencies in order to cover the cost of the transactions incurred when doing business with other businesses and organizations from other countries. But these transactions are said to be just a fraction of the market, and still the bulk of the market are still considered as speculative in nature as participated by large participants like financial institutions who hedge and speculate.

Though every country is represented by their own currencies and there are hundreds of countries out there, only a few are traded heavily in the market. These are called the majors which include the EUR/USD, the USD/JPY, the GBP/USD and the USD/CHF. These four majors are backed by the commodity pairs of AUD/US, the USD/CAD and the NZD/USD. These currencies are the most active in currency trading, accounting to almost 95 percent of the trades made every day.

online stock trading

Exchange floor

Trading on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange (the NYSE) is the image most people have thanks to television and the movies of how the market works. When the market is open, you see hundreds of people rushing about shouting and gesturing to one another, talking on phones, watching monitors, and entering data into terminals. It could not look any more chaotic.

Yet, at the end of the day, the markets workout all the trades and get ready for the next day. Here is a step-by-step walk through the execution of a simple trade on the NYSE.

1. You tell your broker to buy 100 shares of Acme Kumquats at market.
2. Your broker’s order department sends the order to their floor clerk on the exchange.
3. The floor clerk alerts one of the firm’s floor traders who finds another floor trader willing to sell 100 shares of Acme Kumquats. This is easier than is sounds, because the floor trader knows which floor traders make markets in particular stocks.
4. The two agree on a price and complete the deal. The notification process goes back up the line and your broker calls you back with the final price. The process may take a few minutes or longer depending on the stock and the market. A few days later, you will receive the confirmation notice in the mail.

Of course, this example was a simple trade, complex trades and large blocks of stocks involve considerable more detail.

Electronically
In this fast moving world, some are wondering how long a human-based system like the NYSE can continue to provide the level of service necessary. The NYSE handles a small percentage of its volume electronically, while the rival NASDAQ is completely electronic.

The electronic markets use vast computer networks to match buyers and sellers, rather than human brokers. While this system lacks the romantic and exciting images of the NYSE floor, it is efficient and fast. Many large institutional traders, such as pension funds, mutual funds, and so forth, prefer this method of trading.

For the individual investor, you frequently can get almost instant confirmations on your trades, if that is important to you. It also facilitates further control of online investing by putting you one step closer to the market.

You still need a broker to handle your trades – individuals don’t have access to the electronic markets. Your broker accesses the exchange network and the system finds a buyer or seller depending on your order.

Calculating the Cost of Equity Capital

Forex equity rates

The cost of debt capital (as well as preference capital) can be calculated fairly easily. This is because it entails a well-defined burden in terms of interest payment and principal payment. Estimating the cost of equity capital, however, is difficult as there is no fixed dividend or principal payment burden associated with it. Equity dividend is payable out of the earnings of the firm at the discretion of the board of directors. Further, the question of repaying the equity capital does not ordinarily arise during the life of the firm. In liquidation, of course, equity shareholders are entitled .to the residual assets of the firm.

Theoretically, the cost of equity is the discount rate which equates the present value of the future dividends to the net amount realized from the issue of equity capital. While it is almost impossible to predict the future dividends, it seems reasonable to assume that dividends would grow over time because firms generally reinvest a significant portion-40 to 60 percent of their earnings. Such reinvestment tends to enhance future earnings and dividends. Hence the cost of equity may be calculated as follows

Cost of equity = (Expected dividend per share/ Net price realized from issuing an equity share) + Expected annual rate of growth in dividends

(The formula for cost of equity presented here is derived from equating the present value of a dividend stream which is expected to grow at a constant rate with the present market price per share)

As you may have guessed, the difficulty in applying this formula arises mainly with respect to estimating the growth factor. One can begin with the past growth rate as a starting point. Past trends, however, cannot be expected to continue indefinitely in future. Hence the past growth rate figure will have to be adjusted in the light of assessments regarding future developments. Clearly, there will be varying judgments with respect to future growth. Yet, such a judgment is essential in order to get a handle over cost of capital.

If we assume that the expected annual rate of growth in dividends for Horizon Limited is 10 per cent, we get the following estimate for its cost of equity:

(1.8 / 22.75) + 0.10 = 0.1791 or 17.91 per cent.

Mortgage Fraud in Florida

According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), in 2008 Florida ranked number one in states with significant mortgage fraud problems. The Federal National Mortgage Association (Fannie Mae) reports that some of the top markets for mortgage loan misrepresentation are in Florida: Miami, Pompano Beach, Fort Myers, Florida Keys, Fort Lauderdale and Palm Beach. However, this is not just a problem in Florida; across the United States, there has been a significant increase in mortgage fraud. Financial institutions are required to file Suspicious Activity Reports if they suspect mortgage fraud; those reports have increased from 46,717 in 2007 to 62,084 in 2008, a 33 percent increase.

What Is Mortgage Fraud?

Mortgage fraud is a material misstatement, misrepresentation or omission relied upon by an underwriter or lender to fund, purchase or insure a loan. Basically, any information included in a mortgage loan application that is not true can be considered mortgage fraud. If the information on employment history or income is not completely accurate and that information is relied on to the detriment of the other party, it may constitute fraud.

There are two types of mortgage fraud, fraud for housing and fraud for profit. Fraud for housing, also called fraud for property, involves illegal actions by the borrower and usually one loan. Often the borrower wants to buy a house that he or she cannot afford. Sometimes the borrower is helped or even encouraged by dishonest mortgage industry professionals as well.

The FBI calls fraud for profit "industry insider fraud." This type of fraud involves a group of people defrauding a prospective homebuyer or mortgage lender. Fraud for profit usually includes multiple loans and typically much more complicated scenarios than fraud for housing.

Examples of Mortgage Fraud

Property flipping: buying property and artificially inflating its value through false appraisals. There are often multiple sales with each subsequent sale at a higher price. After several sales, the property is foreclosed on and the lender is left holding the bag.

Identity theft: a fictitious or stolen identity is used on the loan application. The individual whose name and credit history are being used often have no idea he or she is being exploited.

Silent second: the buyer borrows the down payment from the seller, but it is not disclosed. The lender does not know that the buyer is not supplying the money for the down payment.

Foreclosure rescue scams: homeowners at risk of foreclosure are enticed into paying up front fees and transferring the deed of their home thinking they can save their home. Instead, their fees are taken and properties are remortgaged.

Federal Government Initiatives

President Barack Obama announced in April 2009 that as part of his Making Home Affordable initiative there would be an effort to combat mortgage fraud. The Combating Mortgage Fraud Initiative would be a joint endeavor by several agencies including the Department of the Treasury, the U.S. Department of Justice, the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the Federal Trade Commission. In his budget for 2010, the president requested additional funding for the FBI and HUD to crack down on mortgage fraud. This initiative would allow agencies to share information and resources between the federal agencies but also with states.

State and Local Efforts

Under Florida law, mortgage fraud is a third degree felony. It is a second degree felony if the loan amount is more than $100,000. Felonies can be punished by time in a state prison, up to 5 years for a third degree felony and up to 15 years for a second degree felony.

Mortgage fraud task forces are being formed to combat mortgage fraud in some jurisdictions with the highest rate of mortgage fraud. Mayor Carlos Alvarez, the mayor of Miami-Dade County, Florida, has formed a Mortgage Fraud Task Force. The executive board of the task force includes elected officials, government professionals, business leaders, law enforcement professionals and prosecutors. According to the mayor's office there have been 56 mortgage fraud related arrests due to efforts of the task force.

The forex market is filled with scam offers and pie in the sky promises. On the other hand, it is the largest, most liquid market that trades twenty four hours a day. So how to find your way through the maze of offers that are out there, well here are four steps to becoming a successful trader.

Becoming a successful Forex trader basically comes down to four things:

1) Learning about the markets and your appitite for risk
How the markets work, what moves them, etc is a simple matter as these markets are not that complicated. Determining how well you are suited to trading is a difficult process however. Finding out how you react to stress and perform when real money is on the line can be a life long process

2) Finding and learning a system that fits your personality and life style
There are as many different systems as there are traders, many have been proven over time, so really the only question is which one suits me.I know many will dispute this point, however it really is not as complicated as some try to make it. Most of those making it hard are really just trying to sell you something. There are many free systems that once learned and traded can make you wealthy

3) Testing that system until you have an edge.
Testing is the heart of becoming a good trader. Most people don't do this. If you test something until you can prove and edge, no matter how small it may seem, you just need to trade it over and over to make money.

4) Trading that system exactly how you tested it, until you are wealthy.
Many traders are always looking for that magic system that will make money fast. The secret to wealth is to stick to the system you have tested and proved and do it until you acumulate wealth. Not chase the latest trading software or system.

When you are ready to trade this market, keep these four simple steps in mind and then do not let anything stand in your way of becoming the trader you want to be.

Japan economic indicators

he money supply strongly affects the rates of Japanese currency, the yen. In case the supply grows slowly, the Bank of Japan has to decrease the interest rates affecting the yen negatively. The deflation which means falling prices has a negative affection to the yen.

Tankan Index

This index, based on the surveys held among Japanese companies four times a year and showing the business confidence is one of the key indicators of the Japanese economy.

The Tankan values higher than 0 usually show the positive economy trend and are considered as normal though the higher values gives good support for the yen and are good for the entire economy of Japan.

About Japan's economic structure.

The economy of Japan is partly similar to that of the developed European countries. Bank financing is traditionally more reliable from the point of view of Japanese companies than the issuance of equity and bond. It is normal for the employees of big companies to develop careers in one company during all their lives. The Japanese companies are divided into two groups: the first includes multinational corporations, huge and powerful, whether the second one contains small enterprises often owned by families. Since 1960s the economy of Japan has been based on manufacturing industry. The Japanese manufacturing is still dominated by car and electronic production that affect international markets without any difficulties.

Japan leads in production of machine tools as well and export them mostly to the USA and South Korea. Japan is also one of the key players of the steel and iron markets. High level of investments is an important characteristic of Japan's economy in public as well as in private sectors. A gross fixed investment amount calculated for the period from 1999 to 2003 made up 24-27% of the GDP adjusted to current prices which is much higher than US or any european developed country had during the same period.

Economy of Japan.

The density of population is high in Japan, about 243 people per square kilometer. This is caused by combination of rather small territory and a considerable population. According to World Bank research, the number of people living in the urban areas is 65% and the length of the life is the highest in the world aggregaing 82 years according to 1997-2003 data. 11.8% of the Japan's population is reported to live below poverty line which corresponds 50% of median household income. The literacy of adult popularion is 99.9%. Speaking about human development index Japan has the 9th place out of 177. Gross National income per capita is $34510 (2003 data) makes Japan the second largest market in the world. Moreover, Japan is a member of OECD. The figures of GDP annual growth was 2.4% in 2004.

USA economic indicators

As far as we can predict productivity from quarter to quarter, the aggregate hours worked index provides a useful monthly read on the entire economy. Atlanta Fed Index Official name of this index is Southeastern Manufacturing Survey. It is regional manufacturing review that covers such prominent industrial states as Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Tennessee and Florida. The survey's industry business conditions index is designed to represent changes in factory-sector: it is above zero when the sector expands and it's below zero when the sector contracts.

Actually, this index has no market importance and it's available after the releasing of the national Purchasing Managers' Index. So this index considered too dated not worth tracking. Average Hourly Earnings One of the most important indicators of the tightness of labor markets and labor cost inflation is Average hourly earnings (AHE). The Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor provides it every month, and it's available one week after the reported month. The indicator seems to take insignificant effect financial markets; unexpected increases can cause rising of interest rates because such increasing considered inflationary, especially if in excess of productivity growth. A large rate of growth of AHE can cause increasing of Fed Funds rate that is also bearish for the bond market. Stock Prices: high wage growth may increase long-term interest rates, reduce profits, and lead to increase of the Fed Funds rate to stem inflation, that is why higher wage inflation is bearish for the stock market.

Exchange Rates: unclear. On one hand it leads to higher nominal interest rates and real ones too. On the other hand high wage inflation leads to high inflation and loss of competitiveness. Ability to Affect Markets: it is an early signal of wage inflation.

Analysis of the Indicator: if the wage growth were above productivity growth, high rates of growth of average hourly earnings would lead to higher inflation.

Employment Cost Index (ECI), closely watched by the Fed, is a measure of wage cost growth. Compared to the quarterly published ECI, the advantage of the average hourly earnings indicator it that it is published monthly and is an early indicator of wage growth in the previous month. But, nevertheless, compared to the ECI, AHE has some minuses. The ECI includes wages and salaries as well as benefits costs, so it is a broader measure of labor costs. In general, the basis of AHE indicator is gross earnings. So they represent changes in basic hourly and incentive wage rates as well as premium pay for overtime, late-shift work and changes in output of workers paid using an incentive based plan. They also demonstrate shifts in the number of employees between relatively high-paid and low-paid work. Changes in earnings for the individual industries making up those groups and divisions will impact averages for industry groups and divisions. Average hourly earnings that are reported by CES are not wage rates.

Average Weekly Earnings

Average Weekly Earnings - multiplying average weekly hours estimates by average hourly earnings estimates derives these estimates. So, weekly earnings are affected the length of the workweek along with changes in average hourly earnings. Monthly trends in these factors as stoppages for varying reason, the proportion of part-time workers, labor turnover during the survey period and absenteeism for which employees are not paid may cause the fluctuations of average workweek. Structural changes in the makeup of the workforce can cause long-term trends of average weekly earnings. For example, persistent long-term rising of the percentage of part-time workers in retail trade and many of the services industries have reduced average workweeks in these industries and have affected the average weekly earnings series. Average workweek.

UK economic indicators

House Prices A UK report.

Nationwide and Halifax Banks, together with the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) published the assessments of monthly price changes. Increasing house prices will promote consumer spending and the economy in the short term. Increasing trend also requires rising of interest rates. The longer-term forecasts are more complex. Strong reports will be Sterling positive in the short term. The longer-term conclusions are unfavorable, especially as a sharp recession in the sector can destabilize the economy as a whole. And now some remarks concerning economy of the United Kingdom. United Kingdom has 60.27 million people and occupies 21st rank in the world in terms of population in mid 2004.

National growth rate in UK was 0.3% during the 1975-2002 (according to data obtained from UNDP HD Indicators), and this was much lower comparing to the high-income countries' growth of 0.6 %. The amount of citizens who live below income poverty line is 12.5% of UK's population, and it's 50% of median household income. Improved water source are accessible to all the people in UK. The percent of school-age population as it denoted in gross primary enrollment, with both male and female enrolled equitably, is 101%. Adult Literacy rate is 99%. In terms of human development index, UK occupies 12th place among 177 countries of the world. Gross National income of United Kingdom is $ 1680.6 billions (2003).

This means that UK has the fourth largest economy in the world. The country is a member of OECD. In 2003 purchasing power parity was estimated as US $ 27,460, Per capita GNI. In the same year, average annual growth rate of GDP was 2.2 %. Almost 70% of GDP in the UK is accounted for by private consumption, in concordance with the expenditure method for calculating national income. About National Institute of Economic and Social Research (NIESR) National Institute of Economic and Social Research (NIESR) provides monthly estimation of GDP, totalizing disparate data into a single and easily understood measure. Martin Weale, NIESR Director, and his colleagues describe the process of producing of monthly indicator in the February 2005 issue of the Economic Journal. It is based on movements in the monthly series of data for manufacturing output, industrial production and retail sales.

The data of the third month is being forecasted relying on two months' data for any calendar quarter, using standard statistical techniques. Such forecasts are base for estimation for the growth in GDP in calendar quarters. The estimates are supposed to retrace the first estimate of GDP growth published by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) and anticipate it by about three weeks. The National Institute is publishing the indicator since 1998. Since then there have been only three occasions when the error has been as big as 0.3% of GDP in absolute size. Two of these mistakes have been made due to unusual events, which are the fuel protests in September 2000 and the Golden Jubilee in June 2002.

The third occasion is associated with the Princess of Wales' funeral in September 1997. Standard forecasting method performed badly because of disrupted data of the third month of the quarter and this caused two of these three large errors. NIESR has published estimates of GDP growth for the other twenty-five quarters. Among them eleven have had errors of 0.1 percentage points, four have had errors of 0.2 percentage points and nine have been exact. Scottish Index of Leading Economic Indicators The Bank of Scotland has developed a new tool to present an early indication of turning points in the Scottish business cycle. It is called Scottish Index of Leading Economic Indicators, and it is being published on a quarterly basis. The Index is based on several indices such as Business Optimism, Housing Starts, New Orders and Car Registrations; its development goes up to 1986.

What is economic calendar?

Economic calendar is created by economists where they predict different economics figures and values according to previous months. It contains next data:
Date — Time — Currency — Data Released — Actual — Forecast — Previous

For example: If the forecast is better than the previous figure, then US dollar usually is going to strengthen against other currencies.
But when news are due, traders have to check the actual data.

If to look at oil prices, a rising price will result in weakening of currencies for countries which depend on huge oil import, e.g. America, Japan.
A good example of detailed economic calendar can be found here

Forex Broker: Choosing the right Forex Broker

Sometimes it's hard to make a decision on which Forex broker to open our trading account, there are just too many of them. Most of them have different features, capabilities, weaknesses and advantages, for this reason I have created a checklist that can help you decide the broker to use in your Forex adventure.

1. Is it regulated?

The first question you have to ask yourself is: is the broker I want to use Regulated ? There must be no doubt about this first point. All regulated brokers must submit financial reports to regulatory authorities, and when they fail to do it, authorities have the right to fine them or terminate their membership. This enforces Forex brokers to keep transparent financial reports.

The brokers must be regulated by their local regulatory authorities, for instance, for brokers based in the US , they must be regulated by the NFA (National Futures Association) and CFTC (Commodity Futures Trading Commission), Swiss based brokers must be regulated by the FDF (Swiss Federal Department of Finance) and so on.

Also when a Forex broker is regulated allows investors to dispute any resolution, increasing the investor protection.

2. Trading Conditions

This point refers to the features of the trading platform and the trading conditions with the chosen broker. Amongst the most important factors are:

Spread - Obviously the smaller the spread on currency pairs the better the conditions are for investors and traders.

Platform execution - Trading execution refers to how fast and consistent are the execution of trades. Some brokers guarantee fast and transparent executions during normal market conditions.

Fractional trading - Some brokers allow investors and traders to trade on a fractional basis, instead of trading full lots "100,000 units" or "300,000 units", they allow you to trade "163,345 units" or "325,911 units". This is very helpful for trades risking certain percentage of their balance on each trade.

Safety of funds - We need to make sure our trading funds are kept in a segregated account or at least insured.

FOREX MARKET

Who Else Wants to Use a Forex Demo Account? (Mini forex trading ...

Tip! The FOREX market is always a good market. FOREX trading involves selling or buying one currency against another.Have you ever wondered how important it

Mini forex trading accounts generally allow you to trade with just one tenth of the normal lot size. This usually means 10,000 units of currency instead of 100,000.

Of course you do not have to have this much in your account. Currency trading works with leverage. If you are using 100 times leverage then you need $100 to control $10,000 in your mini account or $1,000 to control $100,000 for a standard account.

$100 or 100 units of other currency per trade is enough for most people to commit to a trade when they are starting out and that is why the mini trading account is so attractive.

The pip size is also usually smaller in a mini account. Pips are units in which you will measure your profits, losses and costs (the spread). Their dollar value can vary depending on the currency pair that you are trading, the lot size and other conventions of your broker, but a common standard pip size is $10 and mini pip size is $1.

Some brokers are now quoting prices to 5 decimal places which technically would make one pip 0.00001 of the quoted price, but we will continue to use the standard 4 decimal place pip for this example.

Forex Mini Account Trading

Forex mini accounts are ideal for just about anybody who is starting out in forex trading. You would have to be very rich or very confident to start right out with a standard account if you are a retail trader (i.e. somebody trading on their own account from home). A mini account lets you get started without risking so much money and this makes it a very attractive option for most people.

So if you have a standard forex account you can expect to put up $1,000 on each trade, be involved in trading lots of $100,000 and measure your profits in $10 units.

If you have a forex mini account you can expect to commit $100 on each trade, be involved in trading lots of $10,000 and measure your profits in $1 units.

Of course you can set stop losses so that you do not have to risk all of the money that is committed to the trade. But your losses will be measured in terms of pips so these too will be 10 times greater in the standard account.

If you are successful and your fund grows, you may want to move up to trading greater sums. You can still do this in your mini account by trading more than one lot at a time. So if you want to trade a standard lot size you would just trade 10 mini lots. This has the advantage of still giving you the ability for fine control of your stops because your piForex Mini Accountp size is still just $1.

The standard account used to be all that was available before so many people had powerful home computers and high speed internet connections that made it possible for the ordinary person to trade from home. The forex mini account is a development that has opened up the market to people who have the technology but not the money for standard currency trading investment.

(Forex Mini Trading)

If you want to risk even less of your money, you could look at forex micro accounts which allow you to make even smaller trades. Be aware though that the spread is often a little high and you might find it difficult to profit with a micro account. It may be better to use a demo account until your confidence builds and then open a forex mini account for real trading.

Essential Elements of a Successful Trader

Courage Under Stressful Conditions When the Outcome is Uncertain

All the foreign exchange trading knowledge in the world is not going to help, unless you have the nerve to buy and sell currencies and put your money at risk. As with the lottery “You gotta be in it to win it”. Trust me when I say that the simple task of hitting the buy or sell key is extremely difficult to do when your own real money is put at risk.

You will feel anxiety, even fear. Here lies the moment of truth. Do you have the courage to be afraid and act anyway? When a fireman runs into a burning building I assume he is afraid but he does it anyway and achieves the desired result. Unless you can overcome or accept your fear and do it anyway, you will not be a successful trader.

However, once you learn to control your fear, it gets easier and easier and in time there is no fear. The opposite reaction can become an issue – you’re overconfident and not focused enough on the risk you’re taking.

Start by analyzing yourself. Are you the type of person that can control their emotions and flawlessly execute trades, oftentimes under extremely stressful conditions? Are you the type of person who’s overconfident and prone to take more risk than they should? Before your first real trade you need to look inside yourself and get the answers. We can correct any deficiencies before they result in paralysis (not pulling the trigger) or a huge loss (overconfidence). A huge loss can prematurely end your trading career, or prolong your success until you can raise additional capital.

Both the inability to initiate a trade, or close a losing trade can create serious psychological issues for a trader going forward. By calling attention to these potential stumbling blocks beforehand, you can properly prepare prior to your first real trade and develop good trading habits from day one.

The difficulty doesn’t end with “pulling the trigger”. In fact what comes next is equally or perhaps more difficult. Once you are in the trade the next hurdle is staying in the trade. When trading foreign exchange you exit the trade as soon as possible after entry when it is not working. Most people who have been successful in non-trading ventures find this concept difficult to implement.

For example, real estate tycoons make their fortune riding out the bad times and selling during the boom periods. The problem with trying to adapt a ’hold on until it comes back’ strategy in foreign exchange is that most of the time the currencies are in long-term persistent, directional trends and your equity will be wiped out before the currency comes back.

The other side of the coin is staying in a trade that is working. The most common pitfall is closing out a winning position without a valid reason. Once again, fear is the culprit. Your subconscious demons will be scaring you non-stop with questions like “what if news comes out and you wind up with a loss”. The reality is if news comes out in a currency that is going up, the news has a higher probability of being positive than negative (more on why that is so in a later article).

So your fear is just a baseless annoyance. Don’t try and fight the fear. Accept it. Have a laugh about it and then move on to the task at hand, which is determining an exit strategy based on actual price movement. As Garth says in Waynesworld “Live in the now man”. Worrying about what could be is irrational. Studying your chart and determining an objective exit point is reality based and rational.

Another common pitfall is closing a winning position because you are bored with it; its not moving. In Football, after a star running back breaks free for a 50-yard gain, he comes out of the game temporarily for a breather. When he reenters the game he is a serious threat to gain more yards – this is indisputable. So when your position takes a breather after a winning move, the next likely event is further gains – so why close it?

If you can be courageous under fire and strategically patient, foreign exchange trading may be for you. If you’re a natural gunslinger and reckless you will need to tone your act down a notch or two and we can help you make the necessary adjustments. If putting your money at risk makes you a nervous wreck its because you lack the knowledge base to be confident in your decision making.

Patience to Gain Knowledge through Study and Focus

Many new traders believe all you need to profitably trade foreign currencies are charts, technical indicators and a small bankroll. Most of them blow up (lose all their money) within a few weeks or months; some are initially successful and it takes as long as a year before they blow up. A tiny minority with good money management skills, patience, and a market niche go on to be successful traders. Armed with charts, technical indicators, and a small bankroll, the chance of succeeding is probably 500 to 1.

To increase your chances of success to near certainty requires knowledge; acquiring knowledge takes hard work, study, dedication and focus. Compile your knowledge base without taking any shortcuts, thereby assuring a solid foundation to build upon.

Fundamentals Of Trading

Trading is not an exact science. You can’t do X and get Y every time. It is as much an art as it is anything else. There is no magic formula. Trading is all about probability. It is the art of correctly applying a set of carefully thought out rules and allocating the probability of that event to result in success.

Each trade is an independent event. The market does not remember if you lost or made dollars the last time you traded.

The way you approach the market psychologically has as much to do with your success as any trading plan.

Risk management is crucial if you want to have any hope of becoming a successful trader.

Matching a method of trading with your personality is the only way you will ever feel comfortable in the markets.

An adequately funded account is necessary - not only to be able to take the trades you want, but also so you don’t feel every trade is a live or die situation.

The journey to the road of successful trading will make you confront your deepest fears. Your armor on this journey will be confidence, knowledge and belief in yourself that you can achieve your dreams.

Never, equate your success or failure in the markets with who you are as a person

10% Of Traders Go Bankrupt

10% actually go bankrupt. If the first number doesn’t scare you then the second definitely should.

Why is it then that there is such a large number of traders failing? It is not because they are stupid; in fact most traders have an above average IQ and are above average in most categories such as education and income. So why do they fail?

Lack of trading education!

By education I don’t just mean learning how RSI works or drawing lines on a chart. I mean thoroughly educating yourself in all aspects of your chosen profession. Educating yourself on the correct psychological approach to the market! Educating yourself in the correct risk management techniques relative to your account size. Educating yourself in the correct entry and exit methods for the trading style that suits you.

This, my friend, is where I hope to be of some help. I don’t have all the answers nor do I profess to be some kind of guru but I will do my best to point you in the right direction.

Common Misconceptions Of New Traders

They think they can trade consistently with an 80% accuracy.
They think they can turn $1000 into $100,000 in six months.
They think they can predict turning points in their given markets to within minutes.
They think they can buy a system that is 100% accurate.
They think they will quit their jobs and make a living full time after a few months of trading.

What’s the reason that so many new traders believe that trading is an easy way to make big profits? Propaganda!

We are continually bombarded in magazines, emails and the general media with claims of making astronomical amounts, just by applying the vendor’s latest method or system.

Don’t get me wrong, there is good stuff out there but the vast majority is not worth the price you pay. At www.surefire-trading.com I also recommend products but I have at least read the ebooks or courses and think they have some value to my subscribers and they all have a refund guarantee.

An Analysis of Secular Bear Markets and Secular Bull Markets since 1900

From a historical perspective since 1900 there have been 3 Secular Bull Markets and 3 Secular Bear Markets as shown by the tables below of the Dow and S&P 500. As you can see during a Secular Bull Market the Average Annual Return (highlighted in red) is considerably higher than during a Secular Bear Market (highlighted in blue). Thus the long term Buy and Hold strategy that worked well in the 1980’s and 1990’s for investors may have not worked very well during the Secular Bear Markets of 1906-1921, 1929-1949 and 1966-1982.

Yen Gains

The yen rose for a third day against the euro as concern the global recession will worsen helped push down Asian shares and U.S. stock futures.

“Worries that Europe’s response to its recession is lagging behind other countries is causing risk aversion,” said Tsutomu Soma, a bond and currency dealer at Okasan Securities Co. in Tokyo. “The yen is being bought and may strengthen” to 127.55 per euro and 98.51 against the dollar today, he said.

Japan’s Nikkei 225 Stock Average fell 0.7 percent and the Standard & Poor’s 500 Index futures dropped 0.8 percent.

Dollar Index

The Dollar Index climbed for a fifth day, its longest run of gains since January, before the Conference Board releases its index of leading U.S. economic indicators today. The gauge fell 0.2 percent in March, after dropping 0.4 percent in February, according to a Bloomberg survey of economists.

President Barack Obama said yesterday he will demand “accountability” from any U.S. banks that require additional taxpayer money following “stress tests” being conducted by regulators. The tests are being used to determine whether the companies have enough capital to cover losses over the next two years should the economic recession worsen.

“The policies being taken by the Obama administration are fast and comprehensive and there are signs the recession there is waning,” said Masanobu Ishikawa, general manager of foreign exchange at Tokyo Forex & Ueda Harlow Ltd., Japan’s largest currency broker. “This is positive for the dollar.”

The Dollar Index, which the ICE uses to track the greenback against the euro, yen, pound, Canadian dollar, Swiss franc and Swedish krona, rose to 86.083 from 85.981.

Lower Volatility

Gains in the yen may be tempered after the JPMorgan Chase & Co. benchmark index of investor expectations for currency swings dropped to a six-month low of 14.4 percent on April 17.

Lower currency volatility indicates smaller exchange-rate fluctuations that can erode profit on so-called carry trades. This strategy involves borrowing funds in countries with lower interest costs, such as Japan, and investing them in nations with higher rates, allowing investors to pocket the difference.

“Big currency moves are behind us,” said Maxime Tessier, chief of foreign exchange at Montreal-based Caisse de Depot et Placement du Quebec, Canada’s biggest pension fund manager, with C$120 billion ($98.6 billion) in assets. “The volatility spike has to unwind itself over time. Selling volatility has been the winning trade so far this year and will continue to work well.”

The benchmark interest rate is 0.1 percent in Japan and as low as zero in the U.S., compared with 3 percent in Australia and in New Zealand.

The Korean won fell against the dollar and the yen as importers took advantage of its recent gains to convert funds into dollars. The currency rose 5.3 percent in the past month as overseas investors increased bets on emerging-market assets amid signs the global recession is easing.

“There are not a small amount of import deals coming in,” said Roh Sang Chil, a currency dealer at Kookmin Bank in Seoul. “But the won is supported as foreigners remained net buyers of stocks, supplying the market with foreign exchange.”

Worsening Economy

The euro weakened against 13 of the 16 most-active currencies this month on signs the recession in the 16-nation region is deepening. Germany’s ZEW Center for European Economic Research in Mannheim may say tomorrow its gauge of current conditions fell to minus 90 in April, the lowest since September 2003, from 89.4 in March, according to a Bloomberg News survey.

ECB governing council member Miguel Angel Fernandez Ordonez will speak in Madrid tomorrow, and vice-president Lucas Papademos will speak in Strasbourg, France on the same day.

“There are cleavages on the unwieldy decision-making ECB governing council,” said Sue Trinh, senior currency strategist at RBC Capital Markets in Sydney. “The market sees the apparent disunity as a reason to sell the euro.”

ECB council member Axel Weber said last week the bank shouldn’t lower its 1.25 percent benchmark rate below 1 percent, putting him in conflict with policy makers who say borrowing costs can drop below that level. Council members George Provopoulos from Greece and Athanasios Orphanides of Cyprus have indicated they may support cutting the target rate below 1 percent and buying debt to pump money into the economy, a policy known as quantitative easing.

The ECB will lower its benchmark rate by a quarter- percentage point at its next meeting on May 7, according to a Bloomberg News survey of economists.

Euro falls to one-month low on concern Europe economy to worsen

The euro fell to a one-month low against the dollar and weakened against the yen on concern the European economy will deteriorate as central bank officials disagree on the measures needed to combat the recession.

The yen rose versus all of the 16 most-active currencies as speculation the global slump will deepen spurred investors to cut holdings of higher-yielding assets. The Dollar Index approached the highest level in three weeks on prospects a U.S. report today will show a gauge of the economy’s outlook improved. The South Korean won was the biggest decliner against the greenback as importers may be taking advantage of six weeks of gains to pay their bills.

“Investors fear that European policy makers aren’t doing enough to safeguard the economy,” said Danica Hampton, a currency strategist at Bank of New Zealand Ltd. in Wellington. “Any sign that the euro zone economy is deteriorating will likely add to the downward pressure on the euro.”

The euro dropped to $1.3007 as of 1:26 p.m. in Tokyo from $1.3044 in New York on April 17. It earlier declined to $1.2967, the lowest level since March 17. Europe’s currency fell to 128.55 yen from 129.33 yen, after touching 128.17, the weakest since March 30.

The yen climbed to 98.82 per dollar from 99.16 last week. It advanced to 56.02 versus the New Zealand dollar from 56.32, and rose to 71.02 versus the Australian currency from 71.64. The won declined 0.7 percent to 1,341.35 per dollar.

RUPEE/POUND STERLING,RUPEE/EURO

RUPEE/POUND STERLING

Rupee remained in the positive territory versus Pound Sterling amid significant decline in its demand. The cable kicked off new week’s trading at Rs.117/95 on Tuesday, gave up hefty grounds and was trading at Rs.112/75 at close of markets. Thus, rupee recovered Rs.5/20 paisas against the British currency.

RUPEE/EURO

The single currency incurred major losses against rupee in the open market dealings this week. Euro set off trading at Rs.107/95, recorded losses and was changing hands at Rs.104/85 showing net loss of Rs.3/10 at close of markets on Saturday. In the international market, the euro hit a weekly low of $1.3258, severely testing the strength of long-term technical support at the 200-week moving average of $1.3380. The currency was down 2.5 percent for the week, its worst against the dollar since January 25. The euro slid 2.6 percent against the yen to 130.13 yen, while the dollar was down 0.8 percent at 97.910. The euro's decline was initially triggered by remarks from Germany's Steinbrueck earlier in the session. The finance minister said: "Germany, as a member of the EU, has a massive interest in the credibility of the Stability and Growth Pact, which, as you know, is not taken so seriously by some." "If it is not taken seriously, I am telling you, the euro will have trouble one day in terms of its own credibility and stability," he told the German Parliament. The euro was also weighed down by weaker-than-forecast euro zone industrial orders and German inflation data. The reports also fanned quantitative easing prospects at the ECB.

RUPEE/US DOLLAR

The national currency continued to incur losses against the American dollar amid demand of US currency rose in the kerb market. The US dollar commenced new week’s trading on Tuesday since Monday 23rd march was the Pakistan day holiday at Rs.80/10, continued make post gains on the local desk and was trading at Rs.80/20 at close of markets on Saturday. Thus, rupee gave up another 0/10 paisas versus dollar in the kerb market. On the international desk, the dollar rose on Friday, posting its largest one-day gain against the euro in more than two months, boosted by a growing view that the European Central Bank may be the next to purchase its own bonds to stimulate growth. Weak U.S. stocks also drew safe-haven bids toward the dollar compared with the single euro-zone currency. The currency was further pressured by comments from German Finance Minister Peer Steinbrueck suggesting fiscal irresponsibility in Europe could put the euro at risk.
